Google Page 1 is about relevance

The Google Page 1 mantra with its free listings, its paid listings and Google Places has always been and always will be:

Is your Business relevant?

Google SEO - Page 1

So you have a business and whenever you search for one of the services you provide or one of the products you sell, you don’t appear or if you do appear your inferior competitors are ranked above you. So the thousands of people every month who are looking for exactly the services or products you supply are ending up in the lap of the competition. Infuriating, frustrating…….what’s the answer? Google will tell you that the answer is relevance. That you are only going to rank well if Google deems you are relevant to those people who are searching for your products or services. Of course the reality of what Google means by relevance is that your website needs to convince them of exactly what it stands for(them being the users and Google), where it is most relevant and in what areas it should promote you and how high.

So lets be straight about this because it is not some mystical, magical wand waving exercise it is a simple acceptance by people in business that they need to reflect the relevance of their business in their website. The onus is on you as the business owner to prove to Google that you should rank ahead of your competitors by getting an understanding of SEO

or dealing with SEO experts. The idea has long passed that designing a website should just be to win artistic awards, Website Design needs to do only 3 things:

  • Be attractive to the people seeking your services visually
  • Provide solutions to their problems(note most websites only focus on the visual)
  • Be designed for relevance to Google to maximise your Google page 1 rankings

Those 3 things are in reverse order of importance because the visually appealing design has to be considered less important than the other 2 aspects. Of course points of contact and conversion tactics are the next level of importance but most websites are not even addressing the 3 core issues.

If your business isn’t relevant, it’s time to talk to somebody.
